Welcoming Brookside Virtual Academy-Brookside Charter School for the MOCAP 2026-27 Academic Year

Brookside Charter Virtual Academy

Brookside Virtual Academy (BVA) is a full-time, synchronous virtual learning program within Brookside Charter School, designed to provide Missouri students in grades K–8 with a high-quality, standards-aligned educational experience. Rooted in a commitment to equity, innovation, and academic excellence, BVA delivers daily live instruction led by certified teachers who build strong, meaningful relationships with students and families.

Unlike asynchronous or courseware-based models, BVA prioritizes real-time engagement through live, teacher-led instruction using a structured schedule that mirrors the rigor and expectations of an in-person classroom. Students participate in interactive lessons, collaborative learning experiences, and targeted small group instruction, ensuring both academic growth and a strong sense of belonging.

Instruction at BVA is grounded in Missouri Learning Standards and supported by a comprehensive, data-driven framework. Teachers utilize multiple assessment measures, including diagnostic tools, standards-based assessments, and ongoing progress monitoring, to inform instruction and provide timely interventions. Through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), students receive differentiated instruction tailored to their individual needs, including Tier 1 core instruction, as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 targeted supports delivered during dedicated intervention blocks.

BVA offers a well-rounded educational experience that extends beyond core academics. Students have access to STEAM-based learning opportunities, including hands-on science labs conducted at home with provided materials, as well as enrichment opportunities such as field trips, virtual and in-person community events, and extracurricular participation through the broader Brookside Charter School network.

Technology access and support are central to the BVA model. Each student is provided with a device and internet access, ensuring equitable participation in all aspects of the program. Instruction is delivered through a combination of learning management systems and live video platforms, allowing for seamless communication, assignment management, and real-time feedback.

At its core, BVA is guided by Brookside Charter School’s mission to provide unlimited opportunities for students and its commitment to developing leaders through the Leader in Me framework. Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning, develop critical thinking skills, and grow as confident, capable individuals prepared for future academic success.
